- Dust is worse in rooms farthest from the air handler.
- Furniture directly under or across from vents collects a film first.

The DUCTS Negative-Air Method
Every air duct job follows the DUCTS Negative-Air Method: the system is sealed and placed under HEPA-filtered negative pressure, each supply and return run is agitated, and debris is removed at the source to NADCA standards. Before-and-after photos are included with every job.
When It Is Not the Ducts
Sometimes the ducts are clean and the dust has another explanation. We tell you when that is the case. Common ones:
- A filter that is overdue or the wrong size. A collapsed, loaded, or poorly fitted filter lets dust straight through. Start with a fresh, correctly sized pleated filter. See our air filter replacement page.
- Dry indoor air. In winter, low humidity keeps fine dust airborne longer, so it settles everywhere instead of dropping out of the air. A humidity level between 35 and 50 percent helps.
- An HVAC system that needs service. A dirty blower wheel, a matted evaporator coil, or a return plenum that has pulled loose will keep spreading dust even after the ducts are cleaned. Our HVAC maintenance visit covers these.
- Carpet, upholstery, and open windows. Old carpet and fabric shed fibers, and Birmingham pollen comes straight in through screens. Neither is a duct issue, but both add to what the ducts collect over time.

Will duct cleaning stop the dust completely?
It removes the dust that has accumulated inside the duct system, which is often the largest hidden source in the house. It does not stop dust from entering through doors, windows, and clothing. Most homeowners tell us they dust far less often, not never.
How can I check my ducts myself before calling?
Remove one supply register cover, shine a flashlight into the boot, and take a photo with your phone. A thin gray film is normal. Clumps, insulation fibers, or debris you could pick up with your fingers mean the system needs attention.
Does the dust I see mean my air filter is not working?
Not necessarily. A filter only treats air on the return side. Dust already sitting downstream in the supply ducts bypasses the filter entirely, so a good filter and dusty vents can exist in the same house.
Why is my brand new house dusty?
Ducts in new construction are often run during the build before registers are installed, so drywall dust and sawdust sit inside from day one. A post-construction duct cleaning is common in Birmingham metro subdivisions.
How do I keep dust down after the cleaning?
